## The real difference

Khanmigo is a tutor that sits on top of a curriculum: it knows the exercise your child is on, and it's off during Khan's own tests ([Khan Academy Help](https://support.khanacademy.org/hc/en-us/articles/13982530363533-Where-can-I-access-Khanmigo-while-working-on-Khan-Academy)). ChatGPT study mode is a setting on a general assistant: more flexible, free, and able to work from your own materials, but OpenAI says it runs on custom instructions and can be inconsistent ([OpenAI](https://openai.com/index/chatgpt-study-mode/)). If your child is likely to flip the toggle, that matters more than any feature list.
