How to cancel a study-app subscription on iPhone, and avoid trial surprises
On iPhone or iPad, open Settings, tap your name, tap Subscriptions, choose the app and tap Cancel Subscription. Deleting the app does not cancel it. To avoid being charged after a free trial, cancel at least 24 hours before it ends. If you were charged for something you didn't want, request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com.

Cancel on iPhone or iPad
- Open Settings and tap your name.
- Tap Subscriptions.
- Tap the subscription.
- Tap Cancel Subscription (you may need to scroll). If there's no Cancel button, or you see an expiry message in red, it's already cancelled.
Cancel on a Mac
- Open the App Store and click your name at the bottom of the sidebar.
- Click your name again on the page that appears, then Subscriptions.
- Click the subscription, then Cancel Subscription.
No Apple device to hand? You can also sign in at account.apple.com and follow the steps there (Apple: cancel a subscription).
Free trials: the three things that catch people out
- Deleting the app doesn't cancel anything. Apple: "If you delete an app, it doesn't automatically cancel in-app subscriptions" (Apple: delete apps).
- Cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends if you don't want it to renew (Apple: cancel a subscription).
- Read the plan before you tap. Some study apps offer several plans (weekly, monthly, quarterly, yearly), some with their own trial. Check the price and the period on Apple's confirmation sheet before you confirm.
Already charged? Ask for a refund
- Sign in at reportaproblem.apple.com.
- Choose I'd like to, then Request a refund.
- Choose the reason, then the subscription, and submit.
Apple says to expect an update in 24 to 48 hours, and eligibility varies by country; consumer-law rights still apply where you live (Apple: request a refund).
Can't find the subscription?
- Search your email for "receipt from Apple" or "invoice from Apple" to see which Apple Account was charged.
- If it's a family member's account, they have to cancel it.
- No Apple receipt? You may have subscribed on the company's website. Check your bank or card statement and contact that company: Apple can't cancel it for you.
Parents: stop surprise subscriptions
Set up Family Sharing with a Child Account and turn on Ask to Buy: Settings → Family → your child → Apps & Websites → Restrictions → Ask to Buy. You'll get a request to approve each download or in-app purchase (Apple: Ask to Buy). Agree the rest with our free AI house rules generator.
How Ask Poppy is billed
Ask Poppy is free for 30 messages a day with no card. The optional subscription ($3.99 a week or $9.99 a month in the US) is billed by Apple, so you cancel it in the same place as above, in a few taps.
